NEWS from DDAWP's Executive Director, Andrea Gung, in YULIN:

Just hours ago in Yulin, a truck was blocked at the entrance of the local dong-ko market (this would be 6/19 6:00am) where local people go to buy the dog meat. About 60 dogs and 150 cats were confiscated by the activists. We believe the reason why there are only 60 dogs from this truck is because, sadly, most of the dogs for the festival were already killed and being frozen.

All the dog meat vendors were forced to move to a different location from the current prominent location in the market. We are not sure about the move (if the move is just to fool activists or not) but we will find out more.

These are the same brave, young activists who did the highway rescues and who attended the conference sponsored by Duo Duo Animal Welfare Project and Humane Society International (please see our posts from a while back to refresh your memories). Activists are waiting for local officials to come to the scene.

We will keep you updated on the development.

DUO DUO UPDATES

Please continue to donate to these organizations; like any other animal welfare organization, they will need immediate funds for food, shelter, and medical care for the dogs and cats they rescue, and for continued maintenance of their programs.
